Student Reviews

The tutoring sessions at Brain Boost were very helpful and the small class size made it so that you felt the instructor's full attention was on you. I enjoyed it so much I even asked for more classes post the 4 we agreed to.

Rishabh Bist - SAT Bootcamp Student

About ½ year ago I came to Brain Boost for help with math on my ACT. It took 1 two-hour session to raise my math score by 7 points. I couldn't have done this without the help of Brain Boost.

Kieran Brown - ACT Class & SAT Bootcamp

I liked taking sessions in Brain Boost, it helped raise my score by 20 points. The class size is small so it is personalized attention to my needs. They were even flexible with my schedule.

The SAT or ACT?

  • Target School Requirements: Brainboost recommends picking and training for only one of the exams. When choosing which to go with, the first consideration is if your particular target schools require one over the other or express a preference. Please visit the schools' admissions websites or speak to your guidance counselor for information on this part.
  • Private Proctored Exam: Most high schools administer one of the two exams during regular class time and so we recommend coming in and taking a proctored practice exam for the other exam on a Saturday so that your student has experience with both and we can see which he or she did better on. The main difference between the exams is in the math section(s) - the SAT has two while the ACT has one and a science section.
  • Time vs. Math Strength: The SAT gives much more time, but requires deep knowledge of a core set of mathematics concepts. The ACT is very quick and requires a broad, but basic knowledge of a large variety of mathematics concepts. For full details on the differences between the exams, please see this PDF.

Our Strategy

  • Experienced Ivy League Staff: Our goal is to provide the best education and experience when training for these exams, which is we make sure our staff is properly trained.
  • 4:1 Student-to-Teacher Ratio: Our teaching method is tailored for each individual student and our classes have a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 4:1.
  • Varying Program Length: Our SAT/ACT classes are divided into either 4-week, 6-week, or 10-week programs depending on the strength and starting score of the students. We know that student committment and dedication to an exam program and practice is vital for results. That's why we assign copious homework and practice tests and verify completion in class.
  • Practice Proctored Exams: Midway through each program (twice for the 10-week program) full-length, proctored practice tests are given on Saturday mornings to fully simulate test day, measure progress, and increase student confidence.

F.A.Q.

Do I have to sign-up for both the math and verbal classes

No. You can sign up for math or verbal only. Or, for example, if your child was significantly stronger on the ACT verbal than on the math, you can sign up for the 4 week verbal program and the 8 week math program.

Should I sign-up for a 4-week, 8-week, or 10-week program

If your child already has test results from a PSAT, SAT, or ACT, simply bring the results in or email them to us and we can help advise you on this matter. If not, he or she can sit for one of our free proctored practice tests prior to beginning a class.

What if my child misses a class Or there is a snow day

We have time slots available for make up classes on Saturdays and also on Mondays. Missed classes can be made up if he/she starts late due to the proctored test.

How is Brain Boost's SAT/ACT offering different

At Brain Boost we are determined to help your child defeat the SAT and ACT! We have small class sizes (less than 5 kids), Ivy-League educated instructors, and copious illustrative sample problems and tests.

When can I take a practice exam

Students may take private, proctored exams at our locations on Saturdays. If you need to schedule the exam on a different day, please get in touch with us and we are happy to assist you.

How do I know if this is for me

We believe that Brain Boost is able to provide you the best education and training for the SAT or ACT; however, this may not always be the case, so we offer a FREE 30-minute class so that students can make sure that they're in the correct environment.

*The money back guarantee means a 10 percentile (not percent) increase in your child's score and only applies if your child is currently scoring below the 70th percentile (approx. 1170 SAT). For example, a 10 percentile increase on the SAT from 1100 would be 1170. Click here for a 2017 table of SAT percentiles.
